(Subclass 870) Sponsored Parent (Temporary) visa
This Temporary visa allows a parent of an Australian permanent resident or citizen to live in Australia for up to 5 years at a time.
There is no need to satisfy the Balance of Family Test, and there is no need to pay more than AUD 60,000 which is application fee and AoS. It is the best choice for parent reunion!
Visa Advantages:
Sponsored parents can reside in Australia for 3 or 5 years without leaving the country;
The visa can be renewed at the end of the validity. The cumulative period of residence is up to 10 years;
No restrictions on entry or exit of the visa holder during the validity period;
The 870 Parent Provisional Visa does not require the payment of a contribution fee as compared to the Contributory Parent visa;
A lower fee of only A$9,000 is payable to the government;
No requirement to complete a Balance of family test;
Compared to the 600 Tourist Visa, the 870 Parental Visa does not have a limit of 3, 6 or 12 months per entry.
Sponsored need to fulfil:
Be at least 18 years of age and a child of the visa applicant (or a child of his/her spouse);
Australian citizen or;
Australian Permanent Resident/eligible New Zealand Citizen and have resided in Australia for at least 4 years;
Have not been unlawfully present in Australia or held any bridging visa other than Bridging A/B/C in the last 4 years;
If sponsoring the spouse’s parents, the spouse must also be an Australian citizen, permanent resident or eligible New Zealand citizen;
Income test requirement, i.e. pre-tax income needs to be AUD$83,454.8 a year before submitting an application for sponsorship qualification;
If the sponsor’s personal income cannot meet the requirement, it can be combined with the income of the visa applicant’s other children (Australian citizens, PR, New Zealand citizens). After combining the incomes, the sponsor’s income will also need to be half of AUD$83,454.8 per year.
The visa applicant needs to fulfil:
be the sponsor’s biological parent, or stepparent/adoptive parent
Be sponsored by a child;
Have sufficient funds to settle in Australia while in Australia;
meet other basic requirements such as medical examination, AFP and insurance.
Subclass 173 Contributory Parent (Temporary) visa
This category is a temporary visa and can be lodged either onshore or offshore. Upon approval, the visa holder can legally reside in Australia for two years. During this time, they can work and study. At a later stage, if the Permanent visa requirements are met, a (Subclass 143) Contributory Parent visa can also be lodged.
Eligibility: have a sponsor, pass a family balance test, meet health and character requirements.
Subclass 884 Contributory Aged Parent (Temporary) visa
This category is a temporary visa and must be lodged onshore. Upon approval, the visa holder can legally reside in Australia for two years. During this time, they can work and study. At a later stage, if the Permanent visa requirements are met, it is possible to lodge an (Subclass 864) Contributory Aged Parent visa.
Eligibility: meet the Australian pension age, have a sponsor, pass the Balance of family test, provide AOS financial sponsorship, meet health and character requirements, and hold a visa that does not have a No Further Stay visa consition.
Subclass 103 Parent visa
This category is a permanent visa, which can be lodged either onshore or offshore, and allows parents or step-parents of Australian citizens, permanent residents and eligible New Zealand citizens to migrate to Australia. Once the visa is granted, the visa holder can reside permanently in Australia; sponsor other family members to move to Australia; and apply for Australian citizenship.
Eligibility: have a sponsor, pass a Balance of family test, provide AOS financial sponsorship, and meet health and character requirements.
(Subclass 143) Contributory Parent visa
This category is a permanent visa, which can be lodged either onshore or offshore, and allows parents or step-parents of Australian citizens, permanent residents and eligible New Zealand citizens to migrate to Australia. Once the visa is granted, the visa holder can reside permanently in Australia; sponsor other family members to move to Australia; and apply for Australian citizenship.
Eligibility: have a sponsor, pass a Balance of family test, provide AOS financial sponsorship, and meet health and character requirements.
Subclass 804 Aged Parent visa
This category is a permanent visa, which must be lodged onshore, and allows parents or step-parents of Australian citizens, permanent residents and eligible New Zealand citizens to migrate to Australia. Once the visa is granted, the visa holder can reside permanently in Australia; sponsor other family members to move to Australia; and apply for Australian citizenship.
Eligibility: have a sponsor, pass a Balance of family test, provide AOS financial sponsorship, and meet health and character requirements.
(Subclass 864) Contributory Aged Parent visa
This category is a permanent visa, which must be lodged onshore, and allows parents or step-parents of Australian citizens, permanent residents and eligible New Zealand citizens to migrate to Australia.
Upon approval of the visa, the holder can reside permanently in Australia, work or study; and is eligible to apply for Medicare.
Eligibility: have a sponsor, pass a Balance of family test, provide AOS financial sponsorship, and meet health and character requirements.
One of the parents first applies for 143 visa.
After 5 years, the other parent applies for partner visa.
Advantage: The second parent’s sponsorship of approximately A$50,000 can be saved and the requirement for the child’s tax return in Australia is significantly reduced.
All parent visa requires a financial sponsor, who delivers a certain amount of financial sponsorship.
If the applicant receives certain government benefits during the financial sponsorship period, these benefits will be deducted from the financial sponsorship.
The financial sponsorship is provided prior to the granting of the visa and there are certain requirements for the financial sponsor’s tax refund. When the financial sponsorship expires, the financial sponsor can withdraw the financial sponsorship from the Commonwealth Bank of Australia.
For Subclass 143 and Subclass 864, the AOS financial sponsorship is $10,000 for the principal applicant and $4,000 for the secondary applicant, and the sponsorship is refundable after 10 years.
For Subclass 103 and Subclass 804, the principal applicant provides an AOS financial sponsorship of $5,000 and the secondary applicant provides $2,000, which is refundable after two years.

include stepchildren, which includes your current partner’s children and children under 18 years of age of a former partner for whom you and your partner are legal guardians
